Giancarlo is investigating the molecular properties of actin and actin-regulating proteins in Trypanosoma brucei, a parasitic protozoan which causes African sleeping sickness. His research focuses on purifying and characterizing these proteins to better understand how the actin cytoskeleton contributes to cellular organization, function, and pathogenesis.
